I need to get from here (Vancouver, BC, Canada) to Yuma, Arizona to visit my grandparents during Spring Break (starts March 15 for a week). What airport should I fly into? I can get them to pick me up if it's not too far away (Palm Springs, San Diego, Phoenix?). And when would the best time to book the flight be? January?|||If that's a common week for a lot of unis to have spring break, then I'd book sooner rather than later.

Expand your search to include Victoria and Bellingham, as well as Seattle if you could. Great advice so far about San Diego, Palm Springs, Tucson. I would also add Mesa, since Allegiant Air have a Bellingham-Mesa flight.

I searched all of these, and currently the best is $323 on SEA-PHX. Cheapest out of YVR is $494 currently (to PSP, back from PHX).

If you want to get creative, you might try Skybus from Bellingham via Columbus to San Diego. You might also try a thorough blitz of all prices with http://www.bookingbuddy.com

One final thought... Southwest doesn't show up in other booking sites (neither does Allegiant Air). A quick check shows they fly Seattle-San Diego your dates for $285rt total.|||You might also consider leaving from Seattle or having a look at the price difference.
Feel free to look at my travel site and compare.
Good luck~

Phoenix Sky harbor is about 190 miles away and it takes approx. 3 hrs (no traffic) to 4 hrs or more if there is traffic. San Diego International is about 177 miles away and its about 3 hrs. Palm Springs airport is about 166 miles away and its also about 3 hrs away. You can ask your grandparents to go pick you up from any one of those 3 airports, but there will have to spend a good chunk of time on the road. An option for you is to fly into fly into Phoenix and then switch planes to Yuma. Save your grandparents sometime.

Palm Springs is acutally closer than San Diego (in terms of miles) but the route from San Diego is the most direct (its just 1 highway and the route isnt all that crooked and curvy)|||Yuma has flight service from Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, and Phoenix. These flights are rather pricey if you book them seperately, so try for a supersaver all the way to Yuma. Occasionally, you can get such a good deal on a flight to one of these hub cities, that buying a ticket to Yuma is worthwhile, but not often. Many people will fly to Phoenix and take one of the shuttle bus services to Yuma.|||I once flew into Phoenix to visit family in Tucson at Christmas. We then drove to L.A. from Tucson passing through Yuma and San Diego. I think you'll have better luck and maybe cheaper to fly to San Diego, because we hit a major snow storm and got diverted to Denver with major delays on our return. Anytime you fly over the mountains - yes - even at spring break, you run the risk of a snowstorm. I think Yuma is actually closer to San Diego (on the Arizona/California border as I recall) than to Phoenix, and is one very straight desert highway. Have a great trip!
