Start by telling the legislator that you were given a booklet by the Mexican Government on how to enter the US illegally and safely. Say you are a Mexican Citizen and the US owes you a better life since they took your land away in the 1800's. You demand Citizen's rights. You don't believe you did anything wrong by entering the US illegally. All you want is the American Dream and a better way of life and you are willing to do whatever it takes to get it.
