I am about to begin the Fire academy in August of 2011 to start my career as a Firefighter. My eventual goal is to be a Firefighter in Bellevue Washington. My question to you is, once I am certified here in arizona is it a possibility to transfer to Washington without having to go through another full academy?|||Different departments require different certifications. At this time all certifications are under Homeland security department. I can't speak for other states but to be a practicing firefighter in the state of Indiana you are required to have Firefighter class 1 and 2, or simply Firefighter 1 & 2. Many departments also require an EMT certification as well. As long as your certifications are through Homeland security they should work or at the least allow you to apply or "challenge" the local requirements. Emt can hold 2 different certs right now, one for the state and another for national coverage. Don't let the National title fool you as most states also require you to take the state exams as well. Any additional certifications you can get will most likely help distinguish you as a better candidate. There are a few schools as well that now offer an associates degree in Fire Science. One college is Ivy Tech. Best of luck to you.|||how about a stupid answer in the form of a question how are fires different in Washington? I suppose they will let you take a comprehensible written test as well as a physical one and transfer your certification i would be found dumb if they wouldn't.
