I've noticed that the Cardinals are the only football team that says the state in the name.
Are there any other football teams that have the state name instead of the city?
Why are they called the Arizona Cardinals and not from the city they are from?|||lol...this is a great question and not many people know the answer....
there are other teams with state names. \ the AZ Cardinals were first called the phoenix cardnials..( I still have that t-shirt) it's an oldie but goody.. although there name was phoenix cardinals they played in Tempe,AZ. (sundevil staduim wheww!!!)
the owners then relized (as other teams with the same story) If they change the name to repensent the state you can "BLACK OUT" the whole state if attendence is poor.
if it is a city name, you can only block the tv channels for that city only. I would travel 100 miles out of phonenix just to see the game in tv (back in the old days) gotta love the Bidwells!!!!
so to answer your question...greedy NFL Owners do it to get you to the game and spend money. otherwise you'll just sit at home and watch it on t.v|||They use to be called the phoenix cardinals but changed it to arizona cardinals in 93-94 to appeal to the whole state

|||They are located in Glendale, AZ. It's right outside of Phoenix.|||New York Giants. Otherwise they would be called the New York CITY Giants.|||There are the Tennessee Titans that have a state in their name. They used to be theHouston Oilers.
There are also the New England Patriots and Carolina Cougars that have a region in their name.
The Arizona Cardinals used to be the St. Louis Cardinals and were the Chicago Cardinals
before moving to St. Louis.|||glendale AZ|||Carolina Panthers
Minnesota Vikings
New York Jets
New York Giants
Tennessee Titans|||donpat u claim to be familiar with football yet post something as stupid as "carolina cougars" when its been the panthers since they became a team in the early-mid 90's. but back to the question they are from glendale, arizona. and like others have said, there are a couple other teams that use the state and not the city as a location.
