We are planning to go to Arizona this upcoming summer and we need some ideas of places to check out. We are up for almost anything. We aren't big into night life, wineries, or art galleries. We do plan to go to the Grand Canyon of course, so any information about stuff around there that is interesting and worth checking out would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch for any input.|||Arizona summers are in the triple digits............115 degrees is NOT uncommon............

Visit travel sites, I recommend, about.com/phoenix

depending upon your own interests, there is much to do other than the canyon. We have deserts, motorcycle rallys, bike races, state fairs, arts and crafts, farmer's markets and a slew of "local" bazzars.

On I-17, between Phoenix and Flagstaff, lies the sweetest little log cabin that I have ever seen. Even though it has been 4 years or more, since I have seen it, I can not get it out of my mind.

Gordon Lightfoot sang about the "Carefree Hiway" and the "Eagles about " Winslow"......both in Arizona. Both are REAL places. Arizona is the home of the nations largest copper mine.

It is not about what and where it is, it is about something that appeals to you.........mountains, hills, vegetation, zoos, races, desert sand, water, casinos and night life, fast food, fine dining..............all of it can be found in Arizona

Basically, I-8 and I-10 are desert.....sandy and dry
I-40 is "northern country"......snow, hills, sking.....hunting

Though I am not a " native", I have come to see that Arizona is a verstaile place, and you are most likely to find what you seek.

I personally live in the Phoenix suburbs between Mesa and Apache Junction, if I can help guide you or assist with your lodging.......please let me know.|||Summer is the off-season for tourism in Phoenix because it is so hot. In Phoenix do your indoor things like shopping, see a Diamondback's game or go shopping.

Lake Havasu is nice, but it's just as hot, if not hotter. There's OK Coral in Tombstone (Wyatt Earp shootout place) and the mountains in the East and North are beautiful and a bit cooler than the Sun Valley. Prescott and Sedona are cooler and very, very nice places - maybe stop and spend a day or two at each on your way to the Grand Canyon.|||Tempe is the college town. There are plenty of interesting bars, bands and boobs(although fake). During the summer, your best bet is to do stuff at night or evening. Although it can still be 100+ at night ( all the freaking concrete). We have rerouted the salt river through tempe, now called Tempe Town Lake. Where you can rent horses or a boat. Nifty parks too. The Edge Fest is pretty sweet.

For the most part. It hot. Really freaking hot. So stay indoors. We have Big Surf and Water World parks as well as several Indoor Ice things.

Although the cooking an egg on the sidewalk is pretty fun. And if you want a quick meal. Put a frozen dinner on the dash of your car. It will be done in no time!|||We went to the grand canyon.(Don't forget your camera. Not Like you would! lol) Also went to the petrified forest and that was cool. Needless to say it will be hot when you are there. I will say that there is an extreme difference in temperature from Phoenix and Flagstaff. lol I was 12 when I was there so being that was back in the 60's, that was a long time ago and I am sure that there are more things built up since then. I had a friend take a helicopter ride over the grand canyon and he loved it.|||Are you going to stop by and see me in CALI??????

I don't know what's cool in AZ.... we are going for Christmas. I've never been, so I'll tell you all about it when we get back.
Luv ya!!

|||Fry an egg on the sidewalk. Drink from a cactus. Walk across a dessert like they do when they are lost in the movies. Find out where McCain lives and leave a flaming bag of poo on his porch.

They all sound fun to me, but I'm a little weird and really have no interest in visiting Arizona.|||Go to a dude ranch, ride a camel, or some kind of festival like where cowboys are dressed up. I wouldnt walk around the dessert!!!!! Unless you have plenty of water. Thats for sure.|||Visit Las Vegas, NV.
See the London Bridge at Havasu, City.
Try nighttime things like star gazing. It's cooler.|||Go to the sand dunes. Rent some Dune Buggies. Those can be fun. |||You could leave.
