Doing road trip with kids from Chicago to Arizona (grand canyon) does anyone know any 'must see' stops along this route?|||I disagree <going to Death Valley would add at least 2 -3days to your trip and Zion maybe a day or two
There are two possible ways to route this that won't take you out of your way
Start by going from Chicago to Denver
Option 1 is Denver >Estes Park CO >loop it thru Rocky Mountain NP into Granby CO >Georgetown CO>Grand Junction CO >Moab UT and Arches NP
Plan on spending the night in Moab
Next day
Moab >Mexican Hat UT >Do the detour and visit Goosenecks of the San Juan SP and then back to MH , thru Monument Valley to Kayenta AZ >make a right on US 160 take that across the Rez to the junction of US 89 S >Cameron AZ [ get gas ] SR 64 uphill to GCNP
From the South entrance of GCNP head to Valle make a left on US180 take that into Flagstaff
From Flag it's down Butler to I-17S >Use the airport exit and find US and take that down the switch backs to the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon and into Sedona
Option 2
Takes you down I-25 to the junction of US 160 W @Walsenburg CO
Take that over the Rockies to Durango CO >good spot to spend the night and \Mesa Verde NP
Then Montezuma Creek UT > Mexican Hat UT and then as in Option 1|||zion and do detour to see death valley it is spectacular
sedona and death valley are my personal favorites
