The gov. of arizona says that she will not tolerate racial discrimination but... i think it is being racist. in one point but in another why should they not have to pay taxes? why should they get free health care? I want more opinions on why its good AND bad. From both sides.|||Your follow up questions although quite complex are only tangentially related to your main question. Here is an attempt to answer all of them:

The new state immigration law in Arizona effectively legalizes racial profiling and thus it is a law that allows racial discrimination.

Your second question about illegal aliens not paying taxes is a perception that is incorrect. According to The Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan organization, illegal aliens DO pay taxes. They pay taxes as consumers while shopping, like the rest of us do, and apparently many also pay federal and state taxes as employees using fake social security numbers. But because they are not legal in this country, they cannot file income tax returns to obtain tax refunds and credits as the rest of us do at the end of each year. The govenment ends up with millions, perhaps billions, of dollars of unclaimed refunds at the end of each year.

Regarding health care, how would they get free health care? I don't know what state you are in, but in the state I live, which requires every resident to have health insurance, you have to prove you are a U.S. Citizen, show income and savings or lack thereof, before you can obtain any level of assistance for health care. Not even legal U.S. Residents can obtain "free health care", forget the illegal people.

I think the bigger questions are:

* (1.) What to do with the illegal aliens already in the country? If the solution is to deport them, which is what do already, how do we go about doing so without violating the civil rights of legal aliens and also of US citizens that fit the same or similar racial profile? There are tools in place for employers to confirm the legal status of applicants. However, because we are a capitalist economy, happy with the cheapest labor and lowest price products and services, we don't force companies to use these tools.

As a side but an important note, if you do some research, it seems that this racial furor against immigrants heated up dramatically after 9/11. People felt vindictive and needed a group to point fingers at and be held responsible. However, how quickly we forget that none of the perpetrators of 9/11 were illegal aliens. The perpetrators were not smuggled in south of the border with Mexico. The perpetrators flew in here and perpetrated their acts while flying in business class. They only had to show their large "savings accounts" and their desire to "study in the US" before they were allowed to enter and remain in the country legally. Right after the attack, we knew that the perpetrators were muslim and of which countries they came from. The rest of attempted terrorist attacks by foreigners on US soil have been from ethnic members of that religion. As a philosophical question, why should we profile the people that grow our tomatoes, clean our offices, tender our lawns, and serve our McD's, and overall I'll bet feel blessed they are in this country, even though they are at the very low end of our society? If profiling is to become legal, why are we not profiling the people that hate us and actually want to harm us? It's not even funny while you walk through airports and you see security pull over a frail 80 year old white lady out of her wheel chair for a "random check" while you see middle eastern folk just walking straight through the business class line with minimum checks.

* (2.) What do we do to prevent or at least minimize drastically the number of people entering illegally into the US? There are already expensive tools, some high tech, thousands of patrols and barriers in place to largely prevent illegal entry into the country. However the US policies from the 50s and 60's that devasted the economies and political stability of our neighbors to the south have to change. We need to be consistent with our trade policies and with our dealing with the goverments south of the border. Instead of trying to get the upper hand in every transaction we need to create opportunities for businesses and economies to grow and prosper in these countries. If their economies are sound, why would anyone choose to leave their country other than to visit or to expand business opportunities?|||its not racist it covers any illegal from any race|||It is a form of racial discrimination ONLY if there are members of JUST ONE race who are violating the law, and no others. Are the members of THAT race claiming so?|||its the law of the land...all they have done is put their own law into place to enforce the law....kind of dumb if you ask me|||Yes, it is, and I think Sheriff Dupnik of Tucson knows more about the immigration problems than we do or than the Governor does:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424…|||Yes, it's racist. Many illegal immigrants do pay taxes and do not get a tax return check at end of the year, if they get paid in checks. However, if they are working for cash and not checks, they are not paying taxes unless they go out of their way to do so. In this case, they are most likely making below minimum wage anyway. They do not get free health care; they get a hospital bill in the mail like everyone else- whether they pay it or not is on them. I think the law is discriminatory and useless. It already was against the law to be in this country illegally. The Federal Government is the one who needs to take care of the issue but no one wants to take it on. I don't see Obama doing anything. What they need to do is make the illegals register and pay a fine, make immigration easier to the US, secure the borders and organize themselves. Arizona's main problem is the drug trade and illegal weapons that come across the border, not so much day laborers.
