One would think that this could be a retaliation, if the boycott of Arizona has that much of an impact on the Arizona economy.|||Yes and No.
SRP is a private business so the State has little to no say in what they do as long as what they doing is legal.
So as a private business SRP would have a contract with California to sell electricity, and like any contract it only lasts for a certain amount of time. Now if that contract ends then SRP may choose weather or not they would like to renew the contract and continue to sell electricity to California. But in all reality SRP would be foolish not to sell to California.
The only leverage the State of AZ has is that they could add a State tax on outgoing products to California (much like how the federal government tariffs items in and out of the country). This could force SRP to jack up their rates to California so high that they might as well cut the power.
But in all reality it would never happen. The argument of cutting California electricity is more of a point to show how ridiculous the California boycott of AZ is. California claims to be boycotting AZ but they refuse to boycott AZ 100%. It is much like an animal rights activist carrying a picket sign that reads "Fur is Murder" while wearing a leather coat. Basically the California boycott is a boycott in name only in order to make Californians feel like they are doing something without actually having to sacrifice anything.|||Nope. Ever hear of the word CONTRACT?
So your answer to the economic loss from California not penning any NEW contracts with Arizona businesses is to kill another contract?|||i wish arizona would shut them off. mid summer and l.a with no air conditioning would serve them right|||I sure hope so.
