This law won't stand, it can't possibly survive a challenge in the U.S. Supreme Court.

Is it possible that Arizona legislators understand this? And know that there's no way it can be fairly enforced? Or possibly backfire on them politically when every legal hispanic in Arizona comes out to vote in November?

Is it possible that they just are trying the Federal government to step up their efforts along the border?|||Theres only one provision in the bill that might be deemed unconstitutional, the rest of it will stand. My problem with this is if you try to clean up a mess without plugging the hole first, you dont get very far.

If i was a legal hispanic here i would back this bill as i would be rightly pissed off that i patiently waited to get here legally and these folks come in, take advantage of our systems, and make my life harder with the unfortunate need for racial profiling to weed them out from the ones here to do good.|||Everyone needs to quit hating on illegals. We are the ones that do all the work here, but no ya'll don't see that. Without us, the u.s. would go down the crapper

Report Abuse

|||Things are crazy in Arizona, its about time we took action as a state. I think the law will stand in the supreme court since they doesnt apply to only hispanics. I dont at all think it was an attempt to force the federal government to to do anything I think it is just that things have gotten out of hand and we feel ignored by the federal government so we are doing things on the state level.|||The law is perfectly legal.

if you think the law won't stand a SCOTUS challenge...what exact part of the Constitution do you think it violates?

I have YET to see even a half hearted attempt to answer that question

But if it forced the federal govt to secure the border...then mission accomplished|||I admire this governor. Those that are legal have nothing to worry about. Those that are not can pay the fines and help Arizona's economy. If they are not legal, they have no business being here. It's not fair to the ones that have done it the right way and obtained their citizenship.|||Hi, it's time we the "states" fight for are "security" against "illegal" immigrants!! They cross the "borders" of our country "everyday" illegally.. They comit"crimes", work(illegally) and take jobs and money from us!!|||I think the law will stand given the current Supreme Court. This Court is much more respectful of states' rights. Especially since the feds have abdicated their responsibility to secure the borders.|||Yes to all...

@ Maxwell:
By lowering the standard for probable cause of a misdemeanor due to skin color or an accent- there by allowing you be stopped, searched & detained for no other reason-

I see 3 easy constitutional violations right there-|||It is probably part of it but it will likely accelerate Obama's plans to give amnesty to all illegals currently in the country..|||kick out ALL illegal alien racist MESSYcan la raza nazi invading border criminals.|||I think its a cool law.|||Indirectly.|||It is a cry for help. No doubt.|||yes|||Arizona has a senior Senator who was the Republican candidate for President.

He says that he will oppose any immigration reform until the borders are secure.

But if a Republican, senior senator from Arizona isn't going to introduce said legislation, who is?
~~~~~~
Instead his website touts his firm stand on immigration:
[Immigration poses a unique challenge to the state of Arizona. John McCain has always believed that our borders must be secure and that the federal government has utterly failed in its responsibility to do so. The recent outbreak in violence on our southern border increasingly threatens the safety and well-being of the citizens of Arizona and all Americans. Our first priority must be to assure the integrity of our southern border while providing robust assistance to Mexico to stem the threat of drug cartel and human smuggling violence. This is an essential first step in moving forward with a comprehensive solution to our border security and immigration challenges.]
[We can further strengthen our border security if we pursue policies that recognize the importance of building strong allies in Mexico and Latin America who support freedom and democracy and seek strong domestic economies with abundant opportunities for their citizens.]
[John McCain does not support amnesty and believes that we should not reward lawbreakers. Any measure designed to fix the broken immigration system must deal with the undocumented population, and as we all know, this is very difficult challenge that attracts a wide range of diverse views and opinions. We need a practical solution for dealing with undocumented immigrants currently living and working in our country and that solution must be carried out in a manner that fosters the social, economic, and security interest of the United States.]
~~~~~~

Well... he IS committed to "a practical solution for dealing with undocumented immigrants currently living and working in our country and that solution must be carried out in a manner that fosters the social, economic, and security interest of the United States".

That is some tough talk there.
