How old does a child have to be in Arizona court to decide which parent he chooses to live with?|||18 just like every other state. you CAN be 16 in order for the other parent to petition for you to live with them and you can plea your case as to why you want to live with them but you are still a minor and it will be the judges decision.|||This is not covered in Arizona law. AZ is one of the few states that doesn't grant emancipation, and if the child is under 18 either they, or the parent requesting custody, would have to petition the court for a change of primary guardianship.|||Miinor are not allowed to "choose."

The judge might question the child if he/she is old enough (teen) but at the end the decision will be based on what the court think is the best for the minor and not based on what the minor might want or not.|||It depends on the age of the child. Usually a judge will request a private (with lawyers not parents) discussion with the child and assess that child's motives for wanting to live with a parent and if that is in the child's best interest.|||18
