arizona: I hear liberals and Hispanics say that the new bill in Arizona which makes it a crime under state law to be in the country illegally is racist. How is this considered racist when I alway see people on yahoo answers say that Hispanic is not a race. How can you be considered racist against a group if that group is considered a race ?|||hispanic isn't a race? tell that to about 40% of my neighbors.|||What's racist is the fact that a cop can essentially demand to know your legal status when he feels like, and we all know who they're gonna be harassing, and its people who "look suspicious" (aka people who look Mexican) Its not necessarily racist but its clearly discriminatory because the bill was created with only one target demographic in mind and that is Hispanic. Its just like the drug courier profile and other laws which start out with "good intentions"...there always ends up being one target demographic which always gets prosecuted for the crime. 70% of drug users in this country are whites, but only 20% of the people in jail for drug offences are white. Most people picture a mexican when they think of illegals, but they ignore the fact that there are millions of illegals from Africa, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe and Asia who are here and slip under the radar because of stereotypes of what an illegal immigrant looks like. When you have laws that are based on simple stop and search tactics, its almost ALWAYS gonna end up discriminatory because the entire practise is brought to a subjective level by the police officer's own individual prejudices.|||please. Racist my foot. something tells me that the only reason the two groups you mentioned are crying is because they know that Mexicans in Arizona had to have came to this country illegally. If they did come here the right way, they wouldn't be crying. Pretty soon, i bet that type of law is going to spread to all the other states....|||i'm not against that law but anyway, racism is almost the same as discrimination.|||illegal isnt a race either|||your wayyy sist. haha
