In almost states, police officers can call Immigration once they arrest somebody. So what's the need for this law, except for the fact that now Arizona residents can sue police officers for not enforcing immigration laws, which is kind of ridiculous.|||Actually, all the law does is make it QUITE CLEAR that they can ask about immigration status BEFORE making an arrest, due to ANY legitimate stop for any OTHER reason, AND provide for STATE penalties in addition to federal penalties.
It is the additional state penalties that MAY be unconstitutional due to federal preemption.
Personally, I don't see what all the fuss is about, since they have ALWAYS been able to ask, IF they made a stop for any other reason.
THIS, in fact, clarified that they MUST have another legitimate reason for the stop in the first place.|||They can stop people on the street and request ID. If they suspect that they are in Arizona illegally, they can arrest them and imprison them for a state crime. They can grab children from schools. They can raid factories. They can do all this without warrants or reasonable cause, just mere suspicion . Even Tancredo thinks it goes too far.|||In most states, the police sure will call the Border Patrol or Customs and Border Protection about the illegals they find. In most states and under the current administration of the great messiah BHO, the answer will be to let them go free as they don't have the time, manpower or the OK from the bosses to process and return these offenders to their country of origin. They end up kicking the illegals free so they can get back on our streets and hurt innocent people. They also are a dead weight on our hospitals, food banks, charities in general, economy and community.
Do you expect to be just kicked free, given a job, pampered etc. if you went to China illegally and got caught on their streets wandering around? No??? Why not. You are just hanging out looking for a job. Who is China to tell you to get out of their country? You can go wherever you want because you are special.
You can swap China out with France, Brazil, India or wherever. Does not matter. People need to wake up and see the world has to have rules, customs and traditions we live by or it is anarchy.
We are already the policeman and charity to the world. We cannot be expected to take in every single person on the planet who gets a wild idea to drop everything and come to America. Once America is destroyed by that much illegal immigration - is the world a better place for it all?
If a cop lets a criminal go for no good reason and that criminal comes right to my house and hurts a member of my family - I sure will sue the cop for his part in the causation of the tort. The whole problem would have been avoided had the cop picked the illegal up and dumped him/her on a bus to ship them back to Mexico.
They say we cannot just put all illegals on buses and ship them all back to Mexico, Central America or Canada. I say why not? We are America and we were first to put men on the moon. Let's take it as a challenge and see how many millions we can bus out of here in six months. Then a year. I bet a good ole college try is all we need.
That and a mine field or two across the desert in the southwestern U.S.|||The first thing they can do is expect violence to escalate dramatically, like the cop who was shot today by drug smugglers.
The main thing that they can do is to demand that you produce proof of citizenship. We must assume that means all U.S. citizens traveling to Ariz. will need to carry passports.
I agree with the answer that said we should kick Ariz. out of the U.S.|||If I were going to arizona any time soon, I don't know what sort of proof of citizenship I'd need. Do we now need passports to go to arizona? If so I suggest we expel them from the U.S. and revoke the citizenship of everybody living there.|||The law was merely to enact federal legislation into the states legislation.|||I am going to the tanning booth.
I am dying my hair dark black
I am going to walk near the border.
I will not have my papers.
I will just have my LAWYERS number
That is a fact.
Going to go to Arizona in July to do this.
