"The seven states with the highest rates of fatal hit-and-run crashes," the paper reported, "are also the seven states that have the most illegal immigrants, according to two think tanks." With 500,000 illegal aliens, or 9 percent of its population, the paper reported, Arizona ranked fifth in that measure behind California, Texas, Florida, and New York. About 5.6 percent of Arizona's fatal crashes between 1994 and 2004, the newspaper reported, were hit-and-run.|||If the law made it easier to deport illegal aliens, the ones who drive would have more motivation to avoid getting caught. They would drive more carefully (thus fewer accidents), but there would be more incentive to flee the scene if an accident occurred.

I note that your question mentions the rate of fatal hit-and-run crashes but not highway safety in general.

I note also that Arizona is one of the places hit hardest by the housing bust, so I speculate there would be fewer car accidents there anyway in recent years (since there are fewer people driving to work & back or out to spend money).|||Yes. How could it not be?|||Yes. At least in the sense that more drivers will be insured.|||IT WILL HELP|||By hit and run do you mean that they were automatically assumed to be illegal ? They have allot of old people maybe grandad had a cocktail after lunch.|||well. when i live in San Diego people were tired of illegals without insurance rear ending them.|||You mean by getting rid of people that break the law to enter to this country or people that drive without a license or insurance or people that use forged papers to get a job? Of course, how could it not improve the situation. How many broken laws are necessary before some action is taken?|||I hope so, I was a victim of an illegal alien's hit and run. He had
to run on foot because he totaled his car. He left a badly injured
illegal friend, and a injured me. It cost many tens of thousands in
hospital bills for the illegal driver, his passenger, and me. The
cost to my insurance companies was immense, and the cost to
my company seeing I was on the way to the airport and a major
training convention.
While the fatal crashes are the most horrible, the accidents with
and without injuries are also costly.
