I am trying to understand the importance of the American military in Arizona from 1840 to 1920 in order to pick places in Arizona to write research papers on. I like to hike, so that is not a problem, as long as there is historical value in the site. I am trying to think outside the box here but all I have so far are the Railroad tunnels and Old Ft Tyson, Quartzite, AZ. Any help?

Please don't answer if you have no idea what I am talking about.|||The long walk s an excellent example of early Military tactics. However, if you're interested in how "the military eventually wrest control", you'll need to move to a later time and south of the area where the long walk started. Old Ft. Tyson also didn't play that large a part in the end game, you need to start in the Globe-Miami-San Carlos area and follow the story South. You will find the tactics not much different than those of the long walk.|||Research "the Long Walk".
And "bosque Redondo"

Basically Kit Carson and the US military burned every farm, chopped down every orchard, and shot every sheep, cow and horse that the Natives owned, to starve them into surrendering.
